Europe is served by our UK manufacturing site in Runcorn, Cheshire. It was here, in record time, that we built the first commercial scale HFC 134a plant in the world - a major technical achievement that helped to accelerate the transition away from CFCs. This facility was converted to produce HFC134a and HFC125 in 2001 and will make a complete transition to HFC125 by 2006. In addition, we have a number of specialist plants at this site, including cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) facilities producing high purity medical propellants for the pharmaceutical industry. World scale hydrofluoric acid production is also located here.
St Gabriel, Louisiana is home to our largest HFC 134a manufacturing plant, supplying customers across the Americas and in export markets. Originally brought on stream in December 1992, the plant has undergone 2 major uprates in recent years in line with the strong growth in our customer demand.
In Japan, our plant at Mihara is operated for us by Teijin and supplies customers across the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific markets with KLEA® 134a.
