Europe / Middle East / Africa / India: Refrigeration > EU Ozone Regulation

REFRIGERATION

European Union Montreal Protocol Regulation

For refrigeration the regulation sets out the restrictions for the use of recycled and reclaimed HCFCs. There are differences between Regulation 2037/2000 and Regulation 1005/2009.

The use of virgin HCFC refrigerant, including the drop-in service refrigerants, was phased out at the end 2009 under Regulation 2037/2000 on substances that deplete the ozone layer.

There are rules for the use recycled and reclaimed HCFCs.

There are new labelling requirements for equipment that is serviced or maintained with recycled or reclaimed HCFCs.

Recycled HCFCs can continue to be used under Regulation 1005/2009 (which replaces 2037/2000 from 1 Jan 2010), currently until end 2014.

There are new control measures for leakages and emissions and requirements for qualifications for servicing. These are very similar to the requirements for the F-Gas Regulation 842/2006.

Some Member States may have their own regulations that are tighter than the EU Regulation.
